2019 Nissan Altima vs 2018 Nissan Altima

Serving Farmington, NM

The Nissan Altima is a mid-sized sedan. The 2018 version of the Nissan Altima is known for its great gas mileage, seats that are very comfortable and impressive safety features and ratings. The 2019 Altima provides a new turbocharged engine and adds an all-wheel-drive capability; the first for a sedan by Nissan. The newer version also adds enhanced AI safety features. Both sedans provide great value.

Performance

In terms of performance, the 2018 Altima achieves its great fuel economy - 27 mpg for city and 38 mpg for highway miles - through a standard 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. The transmission is a CVT. For those less concerned about fuel economy that want faster acceleration, Nissan also provides a 3.5-liter V6 that has 270 horsepower. The fuel economy for the V6 in the 2018 Altima version is 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

The 2019 version of the Altima comes with an all-new, variable-compression turbo engine. By the pistons changing their shape as they work, they provide the best in both power and fuel economy with each stroke. Basically, the engine adapts to whether it will provide performance, like a V6 engine, or economy, dependent upon whether you are pressing on the gas pedal or cruising. For this reason, the new CV-turbo engine provides mpg ratings of 25/34, based upon city or highway driving. This four-cylinder, turbo-charged engine will provide 236 horsepower.

If you prefer fuel economy, look no further than the 2019 Altima's other engine offering, a four-cylinder DIG engine. DIG stands for ?Direct Injection Gasoline.? This new engine provides the 2019 Altima with mpg ratings of 28/39. The transmission for both 2019 Altima engines remains the CVT.

Appearance

The 2018 Altima is sleek, streamlined, and stylish. One can opt for the standard halogen headlights or for LED headlights. The outside mirrors can be adjusted via power from the inside. The steel wheels are 16 inches. The trunk is larger than its competitors. One can opt for a power moon roof, fog lights, and 17- or 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

The 2019 Altima's exterior was changed somewhat for the new model year. The largest change is that the V-Motion frame from the prior model year has been widened and a grill that has a mesh pattern falls within the front of the V-Motion frame. The headlights and fog lights also have been given a more streamlined shape, making the new Altima look even sportier than before.

Features

Features for the 2018 model include braking that is automatic in an imminent forward collision scenario. There is a display screen, an assistant that provides hands-free text messages, a USB port, and Siri Eyes Free. There is rear, cross-traffic alert capability, adaptive cruise control, and a warning about blind spots. Options include two more inches on the display screen, a navigation system, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay compatibility, satellite radio, and a Bose speaker system.

The 2019 Altima's most impressive feature is the new AWD technology. All-wheel drive allows the Altima to choose between front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, based upon road conditions. NissanConnect allows you to access your vehicle remotely via either Amazon Alexa or Google Connect, so you can start the car ahead to get it warm inside, unlock the car, or honk the horn to find it in the parking lot. You can also opt for Nissan Door-to-Door Navigation.

Either of these two mid-size Altima sedans is sleek and stylish. They provide great fuel economy, comfortable seating and offer a great value for your auto dollar. Call or visit Horace Nissan for more information on the 2018 or 2019 Nissan Altima.
